In 2022, I applied for a content writer and communication specialist position at a Fortune 100 company. As part of the application process, I was given a writing assessment. (I can't disclose the company nor the instructions due to confidentiality reasons.) After submitting my assessment, I was interviewed and offered the job only two hours later.
Interestingly, even though I started working remotely in the United States, my ultimate goal was to work from France. After a few months of work, I requested to work in France, and to my delight, my employer approved my request for the autumn of 2023. Looking back, I find it uncanny that the writing assessment was a preview of my future!
I took the assessment below for one of the world's top five Fortune 500 companies. (I'd rather not disclose the name, but maybe you can guess.) The assessment got my creative juices flowing. The company contacted me requesting an interview. After two interviews, I felt compatible with the team members and the position. I was told I was the #1 contender and given a tentative start date. However, a few days before that date, I was told that the job fell through because "the executives had decided to use internal resources." Was the company now adopting Elon Musk's approach to hiring by staying lean and hungry? Not landing the job was disappointing, but I figured something better would come.
